Climate change
JSC "CAEPCO" supports UN Sustainable Development Goal 13 and the Paris Agreement, which call for urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. The Corporation's strategic climate goals include developing renewable energy sources, rolling out energy management across its operations, developing energy efficiency and energy saving programmes, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions from production processes.
Since 2020, the Corporation has included the “Astana EXPO-2017” wind farm (“TSATEK Green Energy” LLP).
Renewable energy projects reduce greenhouse gas (CO₂) emissions by generating electricity from wind and supplying it to the national grid of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The electricity produced displaces power from conventional fossil-fuel plants and delivers an overall reduction in CO₂ emissions in the power sector.
At CAEPCO Group companies, greenhouse gases are produced by burning fossil fuels (coal, fuel oil) to generate the energy that sustains the regions where the Group operates. Greenhouse gas emissions are monitored on a regular basis: direct emissions (Scope 1) are quantified, including a partial assessment of indirect emissions (Scope 2), since the calculation of direct emissions also takes into account the companies' own energy needs.
Greenhouse gases are monitored using a calculation method with laboratory determination of the carbon content of fuel, in accordance with the applicable regulatory guidance documents.
